Insider John Prosser, known for his predictions about Apple, announced the development of a new smartphone from the company, which will be made in a clamshell format, Forbes reports.
The brand is working on a foldable gadget that looks like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip, according to Prosser, who cites sources for Apple’s production.
“The halves of this device are already being tested at Foxconn’s Shenzhen factory. I say halves because they are not a single structure. [At the moment] the strength of the hinge is being tested, ”the insider said in his video.
As emphasized by Prosser, this iPhone model will have a “real foldable display”, and Samsung will supply OLED screens for the gadget.
It is noteworthy that the blogger previously reported on the development of a foldable smartphone from Apple, which would resemble another gadget from the Korean manufacturer, namely the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold.
John Prosser claims the company has tested both form factors and now has to choose exactly how the first foldable iPhone will look.
“As I was told, we will not get two different foldable iPhones – there will be either one or the other. At least for the first time, “- said the insider.
Prosser named September 2022 as a conditional release date for the bending iPhone – that is, it may become part of the iPhone 14 line. However, this is only an assumption, so the exact release will be known later.
As for Samsung, which in the past few years has relied on foldable gadgets, in 2021, according to rumors, the company is preparing three clamshell smartphones at once – Galaxy Z Flip 2, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Fold Lite.
According to insiders, the Galaxy Z Flip 2 may have a 6.7-inch internal screen and a 3-inch external screen. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 will have a 7 “internal screen and a 4” external screen. At the same time, the new generation of the smartphone of this line will unexpectedly lose in diagonals – it is reported that the external display of the gadget will be much smaller than that of the second model of the Galaxy Z Fold line, which had a 6.2-inch screen diagonal. Since the external display is used much more often than the internal one, this reduction may not be very user-friendly.
Also, this smartphone will support the stylus, and its screen will have low-temperature polycrystalline oxide thin-film transistors (TFT), used to improve energy efficiency.
The new Galaxy Z Fold Lite smartphone will be the budget counterpart of the Galaxy Z Fold 3. This model will also have a 7 “internal screen and a 4” external screen, like its premium version.
The Galaxy Z Fold Lite is rumored to launch in Q1 2021, while the Galaxy Z Flip 2 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 will launch in Q3 2021.
